Can adults use HPL?- Charlotte Powell

Updated: Nov 14, 2021

Since joining RDS 2 years ago, my eyes have been open to the daily skills that everyone needs when overcoming challenges/ difficulties. Being able to verbalise these skills has equipped students with strategies to take their learning an understanding further.

Initially, I focused on the children and how they use HPL. It was not until recently where I found myself using the HPL terminology to help me overcome a difficulty.

No one can deny that teaching has its up and down moments. There are periods in this profession where the work load can seem daunting. I was feeling under pressure so I stopped, reflected and used strategy planning to make my way through to the other side. Having taught this skill to my class earlier in the week, I found that it was are the forefront of my mind.

I have also found that I use the skills without realising. We are constantly connection finding, being open-minded and collaborating with others. Teaching the children these skills are imperative in allowing their success. We use them without realising but it has taken a while to learn. Teaching them early and ensuring they have a solid understanding is going to allow them to achieve earlier. I only wish HPL was taught when I was in education!
